Frequently Asked Questions
Can I sell extra power back to the grid?
Yes. Under Alberta's micro-generation regulation, surplus power your system sends to the grid is credited on your bill. Some electricity retailers offer plans aimed at solar owners, and we can explain the options when we go over your quote.
Do solar panels work in Alberta winters?
Yes. Panels produce less in winter because the days are short, and snow blocks them until it slides off, but cold, clear days are good for output. Most of your yearly production comes in spring and summer.
Do I need to replace my roof before installing solar?
If your shingles have less than about 5 to 8 years left, it's usually worth replacing them first. We check the roof during the site assessment and can coordinate with your roofer.
Can I go fully off-grid?
Most home systems are grid-tied so you get credit for surplus power, but we also design off-grid solar and battery systems for acreages, cabins and rural properties.
